Ground from ginger root, this spice has both culinary and medicinal uses. Ginger is a mainstay in Asian cooking and can be found in a wide variety of food items such as seafood, meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes to candies, cookies and drinks. It's medicinal properties, though not fully supported by medical evidence, include alleviating nausea and as an anti-inflammatory.
